Elyse Hauser

Elyse Hauser is a freelance environmental journalist from the Seattle area with an master of fine arts from the University of New Orleans. Her work focuses on aquatic ecosystems, especially the deep sea and the possible impacts of deep sea mining. She’s been published in Slate, Cosmos, The Revelator and elsewhere and has learned from organizations including Bergen’s Center for Investigative Journalism and the Bread Loaf Environmental Writers' Conference. Her work has been supported by Seattle City of Literature, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, the Jack Straw Cultural Center and the Fund for Investigative Journalism, among others. Elyse loves public speaking as well as writing, and has read her work at venues including the Northwest Folklife Festival and the Seattle Central Library. She’s currently a co-editor of the Society of Environmental Journalists’ Freelance Files column. She’s also a member of Syllble’s One Humanity Writing Collective, where she writes collaborative science fiction with writers across the world.
